 Still in times of monarchy, by order of King Carlos I, in 1921 the 1st Portuguese hydroelectric power plant was built in Lindoso with a flow of  7,000 liters/second.

  Later, in 1992, it was replaced  by the Alto-Lindoso dam, the Portuguese dam being one of the ones in Europe, with the highest production capacity (610 MW), with a flow of  3,500,000 liters/second.
